Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: G4 & C#6 (Throat & Root Chakra)

Weight: 599 grams (1 lb 5oz).  Size: 14 x7 cm (5 ½ x 2 ¾ inches)

This rare small 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl features a particularly interesting surface to its external wall.  It appears that it was once entirely covered in magical or ritual gashes that have since been worn down from long use, leaving a surface covered in dark depressions contrasting with the original higher polished brighter surface.  There are also a few inclusions…specks of dust or grit that were accidentally included in the molten mix, and show up as tiny pimples or blisters on the surface.

This nice quality little bowl is heavy for its size.  It has a curved wall and a sheered lip with a faint decorative band of dots encircling the outer rim.  The neat lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of decorative circles, and there is a matching yoni or navel underneath.

The fundamental note is an excellent middle octave G4 (396Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and 394Hz when played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.   It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with a particularly attractive mottled outer wall.

A rare and lovely little Lingam Singing Bowl that fits comfortably in the palm of the hand for playing.

A ringer is included in the price.
