This is a large superior quality antique Naga or Pedestal Singing Bowl with a powerful middle octave C4 (269Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer. It is also slightly self-amplifying.
This bowl has a long dot-punched inscription and features masses of decorative artwork completely encircling the outer wall…including lotus flowers, fishes, and peacocks.
It has the typical shape of this interesting and now quite rare Indian Singing Bowl type, with multiple decorative bands around the outer rim. Thick walled and heavy, it is in excellent structural condition, and basically clean but with some staining on one side of the outer wall.
A very nice bowl indeed!
