Antique Bell Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: E4 (Solar Plexus Chakra)
Weight 1.01 kilos (2 lb 3 ½ oz). Size 20 x 6.5 cm (8 x 2 ½ inches)
This is a rare and extraordinary flattened bell-shaped antique Lingam Singing Bowl of a type sometimes described as a resting bell. Believed to date from the 18th century it has extra thick walls, an outward sloping lip, and a pronounced waist. At its centre there is a fabulous and unusually large lingam surrounded by 3 pairs of concentric circles, with a deep matching navel or yoni underneath. There is a single decorative band just below the inner rim.
The fundamental note is middle E4 (328Hz) when struck, and 333Hz when played around the rim. However, in keeping with its bell-like form it produces a bell-like sound and is best struck. It may have served as a ceremonial offering bowl or perhaps for the preparation of medicines.
It is in excellent structural condition, stain-free, and has the look and feel of great antiquity.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer/striker are included in the price.
