Rare Antique Hybrid Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl – C4
£685.00
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: C4 & F#5 (Root & Heart Chakras)
Weight: 823 grams (1 lb 13 oz). Size: 16 x 8.5 cm (7 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is a rare 19th century hybrid Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl with an excellent middle octave C4 (265Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a very nice fifth octave F#5 (758Hz) when played with a wooden ringer. This bowl is very responsive and easy to play.
Lingam bowls have a very distinctive sound, and Remuna bowls are renowned for their beautiful voices and ease of play, and this lovely bowl combines the best of both worlds. This bowl has the body and sonic characteristics of a Remuna bowl with its fine globular wall and lip, but with the addition of a lingam at its centre and a matching navel or yoni underneath.
Most of its decorative artwork has been worn away from use with the passage of time, including the circles surrounding the lingam, leaving its hammered wall silky smooth.
There is a hint of the decorative dots that once encircled the rim, and a small patch of inclusions on the outer wall add interest and bear witness to the primitive conditions in which this bowl was made. Inclusions are small specs of dust or grit that have accidentally been included in the molten alloy during the forging process.
This rare bowl is structurally sound and supplied exactly as found, with the rich patina of antiquity being a real feature.
A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
