Rare Antique Pot-shaped F#4 Self-Amplifying Lingam Singing Bowl – Inscription
£695.00
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes F#4 & C6 (Heart & Root Chakras)
Weight: 552 grams (1 lb 4 oz). Size: 15 x 10 cm (6 x 4 inches)
This is a very nice example of a rare pot-shaped antique Lingam Singing Bowl. It has a middle octave F#4 fundamental (368Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and a high sixth octave C6 (1044Hz) when played around the rim with a wooden ringer. The globular shape of this bowl appears to build and amplify the rim note. Both the struck and rim notes are close to perfect pitch.
This bowl features a grooved flanged lip with decorative lines surrounding the outer rim and also around the belly at the mid point. The lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by circles, and there is a neat navel or yoni underneath. It is a very old bowl and its hammered walls have been worn smooth through use over the passage of time.
Unusually for a lingam, this bowl benefits from a nice dot-punched inscription, now faint, on the outer wall. Inscriptions are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.
It is structurally sound. clean and free of stains and blemishes, with an attractive golden bronze colour.
A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
