Rare Conical Pot-Shaped Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Self-Amplifying F4 (348Hz)

£1,200.00

In stock

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: F4 (Heart Chakra)

Weight 1.26 kilos (2 lb 12 oz).  Size 19 x 8.5 cm (7 ¾ x 3 ¼ inches)

This rare antique conical pot-shaped Lingam Singing Bowl is self-amplifying, responsive, and easy to play.

The fundamental note is a nice middle F4 (348Hz) that is close to perfect pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer. The rim note steadily builds and increases in volume through self-amplification.

This shape bowl is very rare without the lingam, and much more so with it.  It is the first lingam of its kind I have encountered in over 40 years of collecting rare bowls.

This 19th century bowl is quite heavy for its size and has walls that taper in towards the unusual wide, grooved, flanged lip.  The outside wall is particularly attractive and features multiple decorative bands to within an inch of the bottom, which is flat.  There is a prominent lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, and a matching navel or yoni underneath.

It is in good structural condition, clean and virtually free of stains.

A really rare, unusual, and interesting antique Lingam Singing Bowl with bags of character!  I doubt there is another like it.

A Tibetan silk brocaded bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
