Rare Flange-Lipped Self-Amplifying Antique Lingam Singing Bowl with Unusual Artwork

SOLD

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes C4 & G5 (Root & Throat Chakras)

Weight 707 grams (1 lb 9 oz).  Size 17.5 x 9 cm (7 x 3 ½ inches)

This rare antique pot-shaped lingam singing bowl is self-amplifying, has an unusual flanged lip, and some interesting artwork.

The fundamental note is middle C4 (264Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and 258Hz when played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The note changes to a penetrating self-amplifying fifth octave G5 (765Hz) when played around the rim with a wooden ringer.

This globular bowl has very unusual artwork.  It takes the form of a chevron pattern set within a 1-inch band around the outer rim.   A pattern of dots inside and outside the chevron adds further interest.  It is extremely rare for a lingam, or indeed any bowl type, to be decorated in this way.

It has a grooved lip, a lingam surrounded by circles at its centre and a neat navel or yoni underneath.

This interesting 19th century lingam bowl is in perfect structural condition and free of stains and blemishes.  It has an attractive lightly mottled aged patina that could be removed if desired.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
