Rare Heavy 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl – F4 & B5

This is a nice quality medium-size 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl.  Its thick walls make it relatively heavy for its size, but it feels comfortable in the hand for playing.  It has an attractive slightly globular form and a grooved lip, and there are two decorative bands of tiny dots encircling the outer rim.   The Lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of decorative circles, and there is a matching yoni or navel underneath.

It has a middle octave F4 fundamental (345/50Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a piercing fifth octave B5 (1000Hz) harmonic when played with a wooden ringer.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free with an antique bronze colour and aged patina.
