Rare Heavy Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Close Concert Pitch C4 (263Hz)

This is a rare large Antique Lingam Singing Bowl with a nice middle C fundamental that is quite close to concert pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer. 

It is rather heavy for its size, with thick walls and a grooved lip, a lingam at its centre with a matching yoni or navel underneath.  There are two decorative bands, one of small dots and the other tiny cuts, encircling the outer rim, but any circles that might once have surrounded the lingam have long since vanished with ritual cleaning of the interior over its lifetime. 

This rare bowl is in excellent structural condition, free of stains and blemished, but with some light speckling of copper oxidization inside.  It has a bright golden bronze colour and the lightly hammered exterior contrasts nicely with the smooth golden interior, the latter having been polished at some stage.   It’s an interesting older bowl that probably dates from around 1800.
