Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: D4 (Sacral Chakra)
Weight 932 grams (2 lb 1 oz). Size 20 x 8.5 cm (7 ¾ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is a rare antique pot-shaped Lingam Singing Bowl with a middle D4 (300Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. This bowl is self-amplifying and has a very distinctive voice and is very responsive and easy to play.
All Lingam bowls are rare nowadays, and pot-shaped examples even more so. This one is reminiscent of a narrow-brimmed bowler hat. It has a relatively low profile with finely hammered walls, a wide flanged lip, a large lingam at its centre surrounded by two sets of circles, and a deep matching yoni or navel underneath. The outer wall is devoid of any decoration but has a particularly attractive hammered surface, especially underneath.
This interesting and unusual antique Lingam bowl probably dates from the mid 19th century and is in excellent and clean condition.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
