Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes C#4 & G#5 (Root & Throat Heart Chakras)
Weight: 769 grams (1 lb 11 oz). Size: 16 x 7.5 cm ( 6 ¼ x 3 inches)
This medium-size 19th century Lingam Singing Bowl has a particularly attractive surface…a golden bronze mottled with coppery green between the hammer marks on the exterior wall. It has a sheered lip, a gently curved wall and a rounded bottom. The lingam at its center is surrounded by circles and there is a deep matching navel or yoni underneath.
It also benefits from an engraved inscription, a sure sign of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper. I have been unable to identify the language so its meaning is unknown, but it is likely to be the owners name or a dedication to a deity.
This bowl is very responsive and easy to play. It has two fabulous voices…a middle octave C#4 (284Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. And a fifth octave G#5 (810Hz-812Hz) harmonic when played with a wooden ringer.
It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with a very attractive colour.
A double ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
