Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: C4 & F#5 (Root & Heart Chakras)
Weight 621 grams (1 lb 6 oz). Size 16 x 8 cm (6 ¼ x 3 inches)
This rare medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl takes the straight-sided Thadobati form with a plain sheered lip and a flat bottom. The bold lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a deep matching navel or yoni underneath.
This attractive old bowl features a decorative pattern of tiny cuts around the outer rim, and faint lines at intervals around the wall; the upper part being polished smooth contrasting nicely with the hammered texture below.
The fundamental note is a nice middle octave C4 (268Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a perfect pitch fifth octave F#5 (740Hz) with a wooden ringer. It is very responsive and easy to play.
This Lingam bowl has considerable aesthetic appeal and is in excellent structural condition, clean and free of stains. Some inclusions inside (tiny pimples caused by dust and grit in the molten metal) add interest, and it has a lovely golden bronze colour.
A ringer is supplied free of charge.
