Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: E4 & B5 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight: 504 grams (1 lb 2 oz).  Size: 14 x 7 cm (5 ½ x 2 ¾ inches)

This beautifully crafted 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl has gently curved walls, a sheered and faintly grooved lip, and a rounded bottom.  A decorative band of dots encircles the outer rim, and the smooth surface of the upper half of the outer wall contrasts nicely with the more textured surface below.  There is a neat lingam surrounded by circles and a matching naval or yoni underneath.

The fundamental note is a middle octave E4 i(335Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave B5 (995Hz) with a wooden ringer.  This small antique lingam bowl fits comfortably in the palm of the hand for playing, and its weight prevents it from spinning in the hand.

This bowl benefits from a rare dot-punched inscription on the outer wall; possibly the name of the original owner.  Inscriptions are a fair indication of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free.  A few inclusions (spots of dust or grit in the molten alloy mix) on the outer wall’s surface add interest and testify to the primitive conditions under which it was forged.

A very rare small, attractive, and desirable Lingam bowl!

A ringer is included in the price.
