Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: F4 (Heart Chakra)
Weight 1.47 kilos (3 lb 4 oz). Size 20 x 10 cm (8 x 4 inches)
This rare superior quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl takes the Thadobati form and has an exceptionally thick high-sided wall and triangulated grooved lip, and a flat bottom. It is heavy for its size and its thick walls would have made it difficult to forge.
The lingam at its centre is surrounded by circles. There is a neat navel or yoni underneath. Two bands of tiny cuts form a decorative collar around the rim decorative incised bands around the outer wall.
The fundamental note is an excellent middle octave F4 (344Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim. It has an attractive and slightly bell-like sound when struck, and a very powerful beat.
This bowl benefits from an inscription on the outer wall: a certain indication of the importance and high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.
It is believed to date from the early 19th Century and is in excellent structural condition, free of stains and blemishes, with a fabulous antique bronze colour and aged patina.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
