Rare Superior Quality Extra-Thick Antique Lingam Singing Bowl
£1,250.00
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: D4 (Sacral Chakra)
Weight: 1.26 kilos (2 lb 12 oz). Size: 19.5 x 9.5 cm (7 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches)
This is a rare example of an antique Lingam Singing Bowl with extra-thick walls. It has the typical Thadobati bowl form with a high-sided and gently curved wall, sheered grooved lip, and a flat bottom, but features a lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, with a matching navel or yoni underneath.
Two bands of tiny cuts and a series of incised lines form a decorative collar around the outer rim, and there is evidence of magical or ritual gashes encircling the bowl’s belly, although these have been worn down with the passage of time and are now faint.
The fundamental note is a lovely middle octave D4 (298Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.
This very old bowl has ultra-smooth walls with a small patch of surface grazing from long use, but it remains attractive and structurally sound, clean and free of stains. It has a fabulous golden bronze colour with an aged patina.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
