This delightful small 19th century Manipuri Singing Bowl is in superb condition and features decorative suns (punched dots within circles) all around its lip and inside, where they neatly fit between 2 sets of concentric circles. Unusually, the centre of this bowl is slightly raised. A pair of parallel lines decorate the inner wall below the rim, while the outer rim is encircled by a series of magical or ritual gashes below which are more suns at intervals. Finally the lower part of the bowl is decorated with vertical gashes.
The fundamental note is a perfect pitch middle octave G4 (393Hz) when struck or played around the rim with a wooden ringer.
This superior quality little Manipuri bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean, with a bright shiny golden colour.
