Superb Rare 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl – Incredible C#6 & Inscription

This rare superior-quality and smallish Lingam Singing Bowl dates from the 18th Century and has a lovely middle octave F#4 (378Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  However, the rim note changes to an an incredible, pure, penetrating and Perfect Pitch sixth octave C#6 (1109Hz) with a wooden ringer.

It is very nicely proportioned and has considerable aesthetic appeal with its walls worn silky-smooth with years of handling and washing.  It has a grooved lip with decorative dots encircling the outer rim, and at its centre a fabulous lingam surrounded by circles, with a deep navel or yoni underneath.

This bowl benefits from a well-defined engraved inscription on the outer wall; a sure sign of the high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with an attractive aged patina inside and out.  It looks its age and feels very nice in the hand when playing.
