Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note E4 (Solar Plexus Chakra)
Weight 1.21 kilos (2 lb 11 oz). 18.5 x 9.5 cm (7 ¼ x 3 ¾ inches)
This is a heavy superior quality 19th century Lingam Singing Bowl with extra thick walls and grooved lip. There are boldly incised decorative band around the outer rim and also halfway down around the belly. There is a superb lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, matched by a perfect navel or yoni underneath.
The fundamental note is a nice middle octave E4 (337/8Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer. It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.
This antique bowl has a strong physical presence, in part due to its dark brown colour and the fabulous aged patina inside and out. It is in perfect structural condition and free of stains, apart from some dark runs down part of the inside wall (see picture below) which might be droppings caused by a bird regularly perching on its rim, a domestic chicken perhaps? It doesn’t detract in the slightest and is all part of this handsome bowl’s life story!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
