Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: F4 & B5 (Heart & Crown Chakras)
Weight 933 grams (2 lb 1 oz). Size 16 x 8.5 cm (6 ½ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is a rare superior quality medium size 19th century Lingam Singing Bowl. Its thick high-sided wall makes it heavier than usual for its size, and it benefits from an inscription; a fair indication of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.
This antique singing bowl has two excellent voices and is very responsive and easy to play. The fundamental note is a lovely F4 (340Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim changes to a nice fifth octave B5 (699Hz) with a wooden ringer. The fundamental and the harmonic will also sing sweetly together.
There are attractive hammer marks to its outer surface, and it has a grooved lip. There are two decorative bands of tiny cuts encircling the rim. It has a neat lingam at its centre surrounded by two sets of circles, and underneath a nice matching navel or yoni.
It is in excellent structural condition, clean and free of stains, with an aged patina. A fabulous example of this bowl type, and with a superb voice!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
