Superior Rare Antique Lingam Singing & Talking Bowl – Perfect Pitch C4

£1,000.00

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  Notes: C4 & F#5 (Root & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 973 grams (2 lb 2 oz).  Size: 19.5 x 9 cm (7 ¾ x 3 ½ inches)

This is a superior quality 19th century lingam singing bowl with a beautiful shape and a wonderful voice….a perfect pitch middle octave C4 (259Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and 261/2Hz when played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a very nice fifth octave F#5 (760Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.  It also has a good talking voice if struck and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.

It has a particularly nice curved wall with a wider than average rim.  The large lingam at its centre is surrounded by circles, and there is  a deep matching navel or yoni underneath.   Any exterior decorative artwork that it might have had has disappeared with the passage of time, leaving the hammered surface silky smooth.  Unusually, a pair of lines encircle the bowl’s interior wall a little way down from the rim.

A sprinkling of inclusions add interest to the bottom of the bowl.  Inclusions are small specs of dust or grit that have accidentally been included in the molten alloy during the forging process.  They manifest as tiny pimples on its surface, and are evidence of the primitive conditions in which this bowl was made.

This is a really lovely old bowl, and a personal favorite.  It is clean and stain-free, with light copper oxidization inside, and an attractive golden bronze colour.

A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
