Superior Small Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – G#4 & Perfect Pitch D6

This is a very pretty superior quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl with a middle octave G#4 (410Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet and G#4 (408Hz) when played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a perfect pitch sixth octave D6 (1173Hz) harmonic with a wooden ringer. 

This bowl has been exquisitely and expertly forged.  It has a graceful curved wall, a grooved lip, and a rounded bottom.  The neat lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, with a matching navel or yoni underneath.  The outer rim is encircled with two decorative bands of tiny dots.

This is a very old bowl, quite possibly 18th century.  Its walls have been worn sensually satin-smooth with handling and ritual cleaning over a couple of centuries, and are among the smoothest I have encountered in over 40 years of collecting.  Indeed, it’s hard to believe that they were originally hammered into shape when forged! 

It is structurally sound, clean, and virtually free of stains and blemishes, with a subtle aged patina.  A rare and lovely little bowl!
