Rare Antique Double-Sided Guru Jhakri/Shaman Phurba from Nepal

This is a rare and very collectable antique wooden Jhakri or shaman’s phurba (ritual dagger) from Nepal. It depicts two back-to-back identical praying gurus sitting cross-legged in the lotus position above a pointed blade.  Some fragments of ritual cloth are tied around their necks. The blade is wrapped in metal to protect the point when it is ritually thrust into the ground.

The unique design of this phurba is such that the gurus would appear to be sitting directly on the ground whilst simultaneously looking both forward and backwards in space and/or time.

This powerful ritual tool is in excellent condition, with an aged patina, and the look and feel of great antiquity and purpose.
