Antique Tibetan Dorje Phurba (23cm/9 inches)
This is a 19th Century Tibetan phurba featuring the three faces of a deity with a topknot. The faces are identical apart from the mouth, which in turn is closed, teeth bared, and wide open shout. The carved detail immediately surrounding each face also varies a little. Beneath the head is a dorje or vajra, the top half of which has been tightly bound with numerous lengths of old talismanic cotton cloth used in shamanic rituals. The three-sided blade has a nice Garuda makara with entwined serpents, and a long metal point.
Altogether a very nice old phurba that looks purposeful and feels good in the hand. It is in excellent condition and has the patina of age and use.
