A seated male ancestor or guardian figure from the Indonesian island of Sumba.  He has a superb stylized elongated face and sits on his haunches looking straight ahead with both hands resting on his knees.

The pedestal on which he sits has an ornately carved top.  Collected in Sumba in the late 1980s, this hardwood figure has some very fine (aged) cracks but is otherwise in excellent condition.  It has deep chestnut colouring and the patina of age and use.
