Pregnant Fertility or Ancestor Figure (23cm/9 inches)
A boldly carved and heavily pregnant fertility or ancestor figure from Eastern Indonesia, probably Sumba or Timor. She stands erect with one hand holding her belly and the other at her genitals. This unusual carving dates from the second half of the 20th century, and has an interesting and pleasant slightly textured surface patina. The figure is in perfect condition apart from a repair to the front of the right foot, a clean break that has been glued.
