Sasak Buffalo Horn Female Figure – Lombok

An interesting small container from the Sasak people of Lombok island, Indonesia.  This standing nude female figure contains a small storage space within, and is carved in two pieces from water buffalo horn. Its precise age and function are unknown but it is likely that it had some magical purpose relating to rice cultivation, fertility or ancestry.
