Unusual Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: E3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)
Weight 1.38 kilos (3 lb 1 oz). Size 22.5 x 11 cm (8 ¾ x 4 ¼ inches)
This rare antique Singing Bowl has a mysterious and rather haunting voice, no doubt due to its finely forged walls and extraordinary shape. It has lots of vibrant energy and is also self-amplifying.
The fundamental note is a mysterious third octave E3 (162Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer. The rim note changes to a perfect pitch middle Bb4 (465/6Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This is quite a large bowl, with finely beaten walls that make it light for its size. It has a pronounced scooped shoulder. a plain sheered lip, and a flat bottom. There are decorative circles at its center and a pair of parallel lines encircling the shoulder.
This rare bowl is believed to date from the early 1800s. It has an antique golden bronze colour and is in excellent condition for its age, clean and free of stains and blemishes.
The unique shape and sonic qualities of this antique bowl suggests that it might have been crafted to serve a special ritual or ceremonial purpose.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
This extraordinarily rare antique bowl is one of two virtually identical bowls bought years apart in Nepal. They are exactly the same weight but with different perfect pitch notes. It is extremely likely that they came from the same forge and were possibly part of a set. It is for this reason that I am also offering them as a pair on this website. The other bowl can be seen here.
