Rare Large & Extraordinary Antique Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch C#3 & Inscription

£1,350.00

In stock

Unusual Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: C#3 & F#4 (Root & Heart Chakras)

Weight 1.38 kilos (3 lb 1 oz).  Size 24 x 11 cm (9 ½ x 4 ¼ inches)

This rare antique Singing Bowl has a mysterious and rather haunting voice, no doubt due to its finely forged walls and extraordinary shape.  It has lots of vibrant energy and is also self-amplifying.

The fundamental note is a mysterious Perfect Pitch third octave C#3 (138/9Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a third octave F#4 (380Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This is quite a large bowl, with finely beaten walls that make it light for its size.  It has a pronounced scooped shoulder, a plain sheered lip, and a flat bottom.  There are decorative circles at its center.

It benefits from a small well-defined engraved inscription on the outer wall; a sign of the high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper.  Inscriptions always add interest and value.

This rare bowl is believed to date from the early 1800s.  It has an antique golden bronze colour and is in excellent condition for its age, clean and free of stains and blemishes, but with some light copper oxidization.

The unique shape and sonic qualities of this antique bowl suggests that it might have been crafted to serve a special ritual or ceremonial purpose.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.

This extraordinarily rare antique bowl is one of two virtually identical bowls bought years apart in Nepal.  They are exactly the same weight but with different perfect pitch notes.  It is extremely likely that they came from the same forge and were possibly part of a set.  It is for this reason that I am also offering them as a pair on this website.  The other bowl can be seen here.
